Despite the recent losses, the Raiders have a bright future

The offensive line

Even while Oakland has many free agents this offseason, as stated above, they have plenty of cap room, and aren’t willing to horde it for a rainy day. They signed Trent Brown to what many fans thought was too high a price, but it turned out to be money well spent.

Last year, the tackle position was a liability as the team had youngsters at tackle. Kolton Miller played 1,007 snaps at left tackle with 682 total in pass protection. He allowed 16 sacks over the season with six coming in back to back games against the Chargers and Seahawks, who, in his defense, have excellent pass-rush capabilities.

However, the right tackle was also a liability. Between Brandon Parker and Donald Penn, they played 966 snaps with Parker having the majority with 780. Parker filled in for Penn after he was injured in week 4 of the 2018 season, and also struggled. Allowing 10 sacks, 27 hurries, and 6 hits on the season. Knowing this was the case, management went out and got Trent Brown from the New England Patriots.

However, this year the tackle position has become one of the strengths. Miller, despite being only 24, has improved exponentially this season. He’s only allowed four sacks, three hits, and 19 hurries on the season. The 2018 first-round pick has turned himself into an elite tackle at a young age.

Let’s also not forget he went against Bradley Chubb and Von Miller while not allowing a single hit, sack, and only one hurry. Also compare that to Trent Brown, who’s 26 and in the prime of his career. He’s only allowed one sack this season along with nine hurries and one hit. The two have been an elite pairing of skills and look to have a bright future at a young age.
