The Jacksonville Jaguars spoiled the Oakland Raiders’ final game at the Coliseum, and here are three things we learned from Sunday’s heartbreak.
Contrary to last season’s matchup with the Denver Broncos, Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars would indeed be the final game played in the Oakland, as the Raiders are set to move to Las Vegas in 2020. A playoff appearance this season was no longer a reality, but going out with a win could have been a nice parting gift to the city of Oakland.
Emphasis on “could,” as the Raiders instead opted for one last heartbreak in the Coliseum. Fitting, in a way, given the ups and downs the fans have endured standing by this organization. And yet Sunday’s 20-16 loss to the Jaguars, riding a four-game losing streak themselves, was an ugly end to this era of Raiders football.
The manner in which the Raiders folded was a familiar sight, coming out the gate sharp and yet failing to put the game away at a moment’s notice, allowing the Jaguars to keep the game within reach when perhaps they should have no business doing so. In reality, many of the takeaways from Sunday’s loss were accepted truths, only to rear their ugly heads again in the last game played in Oakland.
