Brandon Parker

Earlier this week, the Raiders placed starting right tackle Trent Brown on injured reserve, officially ending his season. This means Parker, the team’s backup, is thrust into the starting role. Luckily, he’s been able to get his feet wet the last couple of weeks.

Brown’s injury occurred a few weeks ago and Parker has struggled to replace him. The second-year pro allowed five quarterback pressures, one sack and had one of the lowest PFF grades among tackles in the last two games. Granted, that was against two teams who have a handful of talented pass rushers, but the offensive lineman’s assignment doesn’t get any easier this week.

The Chargers have two prolific pass rushers in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. Those two are considered one of the best pass rush duos in the league and they have not disappointed this season with a combined 16 sacks. In order for Oakland to move the ball on Sunday, Parker has to hold up in pass protection.

After struggling last season, the sophomore needs to use this opportunity to prove his worth for next year. Otherwise, he might not finish his rookie contract with the team.
