Darren Waller

At this point in the year, Waller should be listed as a player to watch every week. The Pro Bowl snub has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark and is hands down the team’s best offensive weapon, especially with Josh Jacobs out. What makes this week special for the tight end is the matchup he will face.

The Chargers have one of the best young defensive backs in the league in Derwin James. It’s not very often that rookies are recognized as a first-team All-Pro in year one, but the Florida State product managed to accomplish that feat last season. Unfortunately, he missed the majority of the season with an injury, but a year ago he was outstanding in coverage allowing 480 passing yards and a passer rating of 82.0 when targeted.

Waller versus James is the most intriguing matchup of the game because both players are arguably the best for their respective teams. Also, both guys are young and under contract for a significant amount of time, so this back and forth will foreshadow a very interesting rivalry for years to come. Hopefully, Waller can get the upper hand and further prove that he deserves a trip to Orlando.
