3. Week 7, 2017 31-30 victory over Kansas City

Another victory over Kansas City, seeing a trend? Winning games over a division rival is always cause for celebration as those games typically bring the best out of both sides. Such is true with games between these two bitter rivals. In 2017 the Raiders fell from grace as their 12-4 2016 season quickly dissipated into a painstaking 6-10 season in 2017.

However, despite the pain of the season as a whole, the Raiders experienced ecstasy when they defeated the Chiefs on a last second score. Just like Carr’s first win in the Silver and Black, the Raiders hosted Kansas City on a cold Thursday Night.

Throughout the game the teams traded blows, yet the Raiders found themselves down 30-21 as the fourth quarter began. Another tough task, Carr set off trying to work the Raiders back into it. A Giorgio Tavecchio field goal brought the game within six points with about 11 minutes left in regulation.

Nothing really happened until the last 20 seconds of the game or so as all hell broke loose. With the Raiders driving and in the red zone, the referees decided they were going to have a contest to see how many penalties they could throw before time expired. After approximately 20 penalties, including two pass interference/defensive holding calls in the end zone, the Raiders found themselves with one more play. Time had expired, but due to a defensive penalty, the Raiders had one last shot.

Derek Carr rolled out and found his favorite red zone target Michael Crabtree for six, bringing the game to a 30-30 tie. Tavecchio’s extra point gave the Raiders a huge win over a bitter rival, but the last 20 seconds of the game was absolutely bonkers and incredibly entertaining.
