Richie Incognito

Rounding out the list is guard Richie Incognito who was ranked the most surprising player at his position. When the signing was announced there were a number of questions that arose about whether the 36-year-old could make an impact after being out of the NFL for a year and whether he had put his previous issues behind him.

Incognito battled mental health issues and was at the center of numerous controversies throughout his career that tainted the reputation of one of the best offensive lineman in the league. He was known for his tenacity and toughness but it was obvious that he needed some help before he could return to the league in any form.

After seeking counseling which he spoke about at length in an interview with HBO, Incognito made his comeback with the Raiders and his stellar play earned him a 2-year contract extension. If it weren’t for Darren Waller’s star turn, Incognito would have been the candidate for best comeback story on the 2019 Raiders.
