2020 NFL Draft should give the Raiders the wide receivers Derek Carr needs
Add via the 2020 NFL Draft
Gruden’s West Coast offense relies on short routes and quick hitters, so the Raiders should look at a draft prospect that wins with quick feet and speed would be perfect and give the Raiders some explosive ability. Enter Henry Ruggs III, a wide receiver from Alabama that some have compared to Tyreek Hill. Ruggs is a player that can take the top off a defense or turn a crossing route into a touchdown.
He not only has insane speed, but also has great hands as well as underrated route running ability, and general manager Mike Mayock has said that this team needs to add some outside speed this offseason.
Another draft prospect such as Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb would fit as well at the 12th pick. Both receivers are very unique prospects, as Jeudy is a tad faster, while CeeDee Lamb wins more often in contested situations and has elite hands.
Lamb’s comparison by many would have to be DeAndre Hopkins based on the way he fights for the possession of the ball. Jeudy reminds me of Amari Cooper with his elite footwork and route running prowess, but hopefully he does not suffer from the dropsies like Cooper used to wearing the Silver and Black. Both of these prospects would step in right away as the best receiver on the roster.
There are three teams in the top-10 of the draft that could be searching for a number one receiver: the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Jets. Hopefully teams decide to wait on picking a receiver considering the depth of the position in the draft, so Mayock can take his pick of the top three receivers. In my opinion, Ruggs is definitely the best bet to be available when the Raiders select with their first pick and he’d be a great pick.
Another 2020 draft prospect that could be targeted in the 3rd-4th round range, would be KJ Hill from Ohio State. This is a prospect who wins with silky smooth routes and glue like hands. His game reminds me somewhat of Deebo Samuel, who’s now with the San Francisco 49ers. Hill could prove to be a late round contributor much like Hunter Renfrow.
The Las Vegas Raiders could start the 2020 season with Henry Ruggs and Tyrell Williams as their outside receivers, Hunter Renfrow in the slot, and Darren Waller as the mismatch tight end. Then having Zay Jones, Keelan Doss, Foster Moreau and KJ Hill as contributors throughout the season. I’d say this offense takes a massive step in the right direction and gives Carr the weapons him and Gruden deserve.
