1967
The 1967 team is somewhat similar to the 2002 team. And explosive offense led by AFL MVP Daryle Lamonica that ranked top five in overall yards, passing and rushing. The Raiders finished the season 13-1 and were dominant against most of their competition.
They dismantled the Houston Oilers in the AFL Championship 40-7 and appeared to be an unstoppable force. But waiting for them in Super Bowl II was Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers, who were the defining team of the 1960s.
The game was never a contest as the Packers easily beat the Raiders 33-14 to give them their second straight Super Bowl victory and fifth championship of the Lombardi era.
This was the start of a nice run for the Raiders overall as they would make the playoffs nine of the next ten years. Though it would take up to year nine of the run for them to finally get that Super Bowl victory in ’76. And in the middle of that run, they may have had their best team not to win.
