Las Vegas Raiders: 3 potential free agent targets at cornerback
Byron Jones
Byron Jones is easily the top target in this years defensive back group for any team needing cornerback help. As a former first round pick for the Dallas Cowboys, Jones has been moved all over the secondary in his 5 years with Dallas. In both 2016 and 2017 he started all 16 games at free safety, before being moved to corner in 2018 and earning his first Pro Bowl honors.
Jones is a do it all type of guy. He can play on either side of the defense and cover the opposing teams No. 1 wide receiver. 2019 saw him having to cover the likes of Michael Thomas, Devante Adams, and Adam Thielen.
He could very well be poised to break the cornerback market that is currently being held by Miami Dolphin Xavien Howard at $15 million a year. Many view that as the potential floor for him, predicting he could see upwards of $16 or $17 million a year.
With the Raiders being in the top-10 of available cap space in 2020, it should be no problem being able to spend big this off season. What will be interesting is seeing what positions they decide to back up the Brinks truck for, and which ones they prefer fixing via the Draft.
At only 27 years old, if the Raiders decided to pull the trigger on Byron Jones, they would instantly have one of the better CB tandems in the league with Trayvon Mullen across from him, and a gigantic upgrade to one of their biggest weaknesses in 2019.
