Of course teams are going to inquire about Raiders QB Derek Carr

Reports are swirling that teams will inquire about trading for Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr, and they would be unwise not to.

For the third offseason in a row, all of the talk surrounding the Raiders franchise has centered around quarterback Derek Carr. Entering his seventh season in the league, Carr has become the franchise’s all-time leader in many statistical categories, but fans have grown tired of all the losing with him as the quarterback.

This offseason, with the team moving to Las Vegas, the rumors are that Jon Gruden is done with him, and the team will look to replace him. Whether it is Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Jameis Winston, or a draft pick, it seems like everyday the Raiders are linked to another signal-caller, which makes you wonder whether or not the team is still behind Carr.

Heading into the NFL Scouting Combine, which kicks off next week, the Raiders are expected to field a lot of questions about the trade availability for Carr. Remember, this is a guy coming off a solid year, setting career highs in passing yards, and completion percentage, while throwing 21 touchdowns against only eight interceptions.

Those are the kind of numbers that will easily make him a starter again next season, whether it is in Sin City, or in a handful of other places looking to upgrade at quarterback. Teams are going to be asking about Derek Carr, and it would be unwise if they did not.

While the team has only one winning season with Carr under center, it is not like the franchise has done him any favors. He has had numerous head coaches and offensive coordinators, and a revolving door of talent around him. Finally with some stability with Gruden at the helm, the franchise is now rumored to be looking to make a change.

I am not saying Carr is the player he was back in 2016, when he nearly took home an MVP award while leading the Raiders to so many big comebacks. Since breaking his leg on Christmas Eve, Carr has looked like a different player at times, which is frustrating because he has all the physical gifts to be an elite player in this league.

Another team is going to want to coax that out of him, but for the Silver and Black, the time may have come to part ways. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire, and while nobody really knows what is going on inside Gruden’s head, the fact that there has been no backing from him, or the organization in terms of Carr’s status with the team is also telling.

The bottom line is, there are a bunch of teams that would love to have Carr’s services for the upcoming season, so it would make sense for them to inquire about his trade status. The Raiders have been quiet in terms of standing behind Carr this offseason, and while that may be a smart move by the organization, it also could mean he is on the way out.
