Quarterback

Cole McDonald, Hawaii, Jr

  • Height: 6’3″
  • Weight: 215
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.59 (1st)
  • Vertical Jump: 36.0 (1st)
  • Broad Jump: 121.0 (4th)
  • 3-Cone: 7.13 (3rd)
  • 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.52 (10th)

While it may not be enough to get him drafted, Cole McDonald put on quite a display of athleticism at the combine. From a historical perspective, his 4.59 seconds in the forty yard dash is the fourth fastest time for a quarterback in the past five years, and his vertical of 36.0 inches would rank him tied for the best jump in the past five years.

McDonald’s had a strong junior season statistically.  He finished third in the FBS with 4,135 yards passing, 33 touchdowns to 14 interceptions, while completing 64 percent of his passes.  The biggest obstacle for McDonald is his unorthodox throwing motion, but he should still make his way onto an NFL roster this summer.

Rather than a nice, fluid throwing motion it looks as if he is throwing a javelin.  It reminds me of Phillip Rivers throwing motion.  Rivers obviously overcame his unusual technique to have a great career but it is one thing that concerns scouts with McDonald.
