DE Benson Mayowa

Benson Mayowa had the best season of his career in 2020 with seven sacks, good enough for second on the team behind rookie Maxx Crosby. The situational pass-rusher looked good in flashes and piled up the sacks in the first half of the season but did not register any after Week 8.

Part of that was due to the emergence of Crosby who came on strong in the second half of the season and took many of Mayowa’s snaps but it was also due to the journeyman simply regressing back to the player he has been throughout his career. The former Cowboy, Seahawk, and Cardinal has 20 sacks in his seven-year career and has three seasons with one sack or less in 12 or more games.

Mayowa may have just been in the right place and right time while in Oakland but he is nothing more than a depth player at that position. He may also be looking to cash in on a good season so if he is unwilling to sign for the Raiders at the veteran minimum then he will most certainly continue his journey to another club in 2020.

The Raiders may be better off taking whatever money they would have spent on Mayowa and putting it towards keeping Dion Jordan who is a bit older but more talented and has more upside.
