Free Agency: Travis Benjamin

Travis Benjamin is another free agent which the Raiders could use on the outside. He’s a different type of player than Sanders, but he’s bigger bodied, and has really good hands. With Philip Rivers heading to Indianapolis, the odds are the 30-year old receiver will be on the outs sooner rather than later.

Benjamin only played five games last year due to an injury, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be productive for his value on the open market. Again, there doesn’t seem to be interest for him on said market, so in theory the Raiders could make a 1-year contract for around $4 million and make it all guaranteed rather than a 2-3 year contract and they can get out of his sooner rather than having a bunch of dead money.

Benjamin isn’t the best receiver on the market, but he’s worth a short term contract since he’s a bigger guy and can be a redzone target for Derek Carr. Bringing in Benjamin would not be as a WR1, as he is more of a depth guy, but he would improve the position group as a whole moving forward.
