2. Rich Gannon

When I was 11-years-old in 1999 I decided that I needed to pick a football team to root for. Up to then I just watched football here and there and had no clear rooting interest other than whichever team had the cooler uniforms. Growing up in the Bay Area meant that you would need to pick a side between the 49ers and Raiders and even though I grew up down the street from the 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara, I chose the Dark Side.

I started watching a little more seriously in the 2000 season and Rich Gannon was the unquestioned starter for the Raiders and I fell in love. He was and still is my favorite Raider of all time and is one of the main reasons I became a lifelong fan.

We could spend hours talking about his journeyman career before finding a home in Oakland, what was different with the Raiders that made things click for him, and get the inside scoop on his relationship with Gruden. We could talk about how much Barret Robbins going MIA before the Super Bowl really affected the team and spend some time throwing the old pigskin around in the backyard.
