The Las Vegas Raiders have done a nice job adding talent at linebacker, but they should seriously consider bringing back Will Compton in 2020.

One of the bigger issues with the Las Vegas Raiders roster heading into the 2020 offseason was the fact that they needed help on the defensive side of the ball. On all three levels, the Raiders struggled mightily last season, and general manager Mike Mayock went right to work in bringing in quality players for 2020.

The biggest area of need on the roster was at linebacker, where the team had only one player under contract, and it was a position group that was atrocious at times last season. They struggled to cover, leading to the defense losing the battles more times than not, and Mayock made sure he went out and got guys who can cover via free agency.

Nick Kwiatkoski was first to be brought in, giving the Raiders a legitimate stud at the middle linebacker position. Then, one of the bigger “wants” from Raider Nation was signed, as Cory Littleton will take his place as one of the cornerstones of this defense for years to come.

Despite having Kwiatkoski and Littleton, re-signing Nicholas Morrow and veteran Kyle Wilber, and still having Marquel Lee in the fold, the Raiders would be wise to bring back Will Compton, who stepped up as a leader on this defense last season. Compton was signed by the Raiders in late-October of last season, and before the year was up, he was wearing the green sticker for the defense.

Compton played in nine games for the Raiders, making four starts, and finished the year with 41 tackles. Only 30-years old, Compton brings an energetic personality to this Raiders defense, and showed in 2019 that he grasped Paul Guenther’s defense quickly, and became a leader.

This roster is being built up with high-character, high-intensity football players who just love to play the game. Compton proved that he could be a valuable asset to this organization last season, and though the position group is much better than it was a year ago, the Silver and Black would be wise to take a shot at bringing him back for depth.
