Rodney Hudson’s on-field contributions to the Las Vegas Raiders are well documented, and now he is helping the team in other ways.

Since coming over to the Las Vegas Raiders as a free agent back in 2015, center Rodney Hudson has become one of the best in the game at his position. Going to multiple Pro Bowls, and being a constant along the offensive line that has had so much change since then, Hudson is the backbone for this team up front on offense.

While he has had his fair share of contributions on the field, Hudson made a move this week that could lead to the organization being a better team now, and in the future. For a guy who is captain for this Raiders team, he took his leadership another step forward this week.

ESPN’s Field Yates reported on Wednesday that the Raiders will restructure Hudson’s contract into a fully guaranteed bonus, freeing up nearly $10 million in cap space. That move helps the Raiders continue to build up their roster, as they look to make a playoff push in their first season in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas has already spent a ton of money in free agency, and with more holes on the roster, they will be looking to do even more. In addition, they have prime draft capital heading into the draft in a couple of weeks, holding two first round picks, while also having five of the first 91 selections overall.

Hudson has gone to three Pro Bowls wearing the Silver and Black, and many believe that he is often overlooked as the best center in the game. One thing is for sure, he is an absolute monster in the middle of the Raiders offensive line, and he was well worth the three-year extension he signed last year.

With the extra cap space, the Raiders may be able to hang on to Hudson’s offensive line mate Gabe Jackson, who will cost the Raiders around the same amount of money on the cap this season. This was an incredibly team-first move by Hudson, and being fully guaranteed, it is definitely a win-win for both the Pro Bowl center, and the Silver and Black.
