The Las Vegas Raiders are still in the market for a starting cornerback and we here at Just Blog Baby are exploring the top options available in free agency.
It appeared to be a done deal a couple of weeks ago but on April 2nd the news dropped that former New Orleans Saints cornerback Eli Apple will not be joining the Las Vegas Raiders. ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that the two parties could not come to an agreement on the terms of the deal so Apple remains a free agent and the Raiders are down a potential starter at cornerback.
Contracts are taking longer to become official due to the COVID-19 outbreak and players unable to take physicals but there is no indication that health is the reason why this deal broke down. Regardless of the reasons why Apple is not going to be in Las Vegas next year, the Raiders are now back on the market with some money to spend for a cornerback.
The team restructured center Rodney Hudson’s contract to free up some cap room and with the money earmarked for Apple now available for use, we need to explore the options available in free agency. There are strong suggestions that the Raiders will use a top draft pick on a cornerback to pair with Trayvon Mullen long term but in the meantime, they will need to fill out the position group with a veteran presence or two.
