Safety
After the deal with Eli Apple fell through, Mike Mayock immediately shifted gears and addressed another need at safety. You can argue the Raiders got a better player at a smaller cost in safety Damarious Randall, who is not only a starting caliber guy, but also brings a ton of versatility to the defensive backfield.
Randall, 27, has had a very productive career to this point with 14 career interceptions. He has tremendous speed, and has good playmaking ability, making him a perfect compliment to second-year starter Johnathan Abram, who missed almost all of last season after injuring his shoulder in a season-opening win against Denver.
After Abram and Randall, Erik Harris returns, and newly signed free agent Jeff Heath rounds out the room. Heath is known more for his prowess as a special teamer rather than an every down contributor on defense. He is a solid addition to this roster, but more is needed at safety.
While I like Heath and Harris, I think you could do better by bringing in someone to challenge them for their spot. The Raiders have a fourth and fifth round pick they could use on the position group, as they continue to solidify the backend of their defense.
