4. Jerry Porter

  • 2000 / Round 2 / Pick 47

In 2000 Jerry Porter was the highest-drafted wide receiver of the Gruden 1.0 era. While he didn’t get much playing time as a rookie, from 2001 to 2004 Porter served as the third option in one of the best receiving cores in NFL history with Jerry Rice and Tim Brown. The trio would go on to make back-to-back playoff appearances, including a trip to the Super Bowl.

The West Virginia product had an extremely impressive campaign in 2002 with 51 receptions for 688 yards and a team-leading nine receiving touchdowns. While those numbers may not jump off the page, considering that he was competing for targets with two Hall of Famers makes that performance even more outstanding.

Adding 14 catches, 237 yards and three scores in the postseason that year wasn’t bad either.

Porter wore the Silver and Black for eight seasons and totaled 284 receptions for 3,939 yards and 30 touchdowns. He ranks sixth, eighth, and tied for ninth in each of those respective categories and was one of the best wideouts during the 2000s for the organization.
