CBS Sports: Multiple Analyst
- #8 (trade with Arizona Cardinals) Tua Tagovailoa, Quarterback, Alabama
- #19 – Kristian Fulton, Cornerback, LSU
If you thought Mel Kiper Jr. was going out on a limb, the guys at CBS Sports took it to a different level.
In their live mock draft on Monday, they had the Raiders making a move to trade up and get Tua Tagovailoa. The trade consisted of the Raiders’ giving the Arizona Cardinals the #12 pick and a 2021 second-round pick to move up four spots.
Tua’s talent has never been in question, and he is certainly worth an early first-round pick in that right. However, massive injury concerns make him a true wildcard and would be the main reason he could fall down draft boards.
And with this selection, much like the Jordan Love pick by Mel Kiper Jr, Carr’s days as the starting QB would be numbered.
Now at pick #19, we get to a more common selection with the Raiders upgrading at cornerback with LSU’s Kristian Fulton.
Fulton was a highly productive and versatile player in college, showing the ability to play both press and off-man coverage. He also has good technique and is a smart player who could likely contribute to Las Vegas day one if allowed.
The main drawback with Fulton is that he’s an average athlete for the position, which means his upside may be a bit limited. So teams will have to combine that reality with his clear success in the SEC and make a decision on just how high to take him. Draft analysts are dealing with the same issues concerning Fulton, and he has been all over the place on big boards.
