The Las Vegas Raiders are rumored to be in the market for a defensive tackle in the 2020 NFL Draft’s first round, so we take a look at Derrick Brown.
In a recent post about the greatest defensive tackles ever drafted by the Raiders, there was a common theme among the best of the bunch, sheer physical dominance inside and the ability to rush the passer. The Raiders have been searching for a dominant interior presence since Richard Seymour called it quits and have not had a Pro Bowl DT since Seymour made it in 2010 and 2011.
There are a couple of intriguing young players on the roster in Mo Hurst and PJ Hall and recent addition Maliek Collins has been very good in Dallas but none have come close to being great. The position group as a whole is solid and is not quite the glaring need that wide receiver or cornerback is but if the right player is available then the Raiders might have to take a swing.
The right player in this case is Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown. If mock drafts are to be believed then there is little chance that Brown lasts all the way until the 12th or 19th selections but if he happens to be available when the Raiders are on the clock, there will have to be some serious discussions about picking Brown. Let’s discuss why that is the case.
