Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the defensive tackle position looks to have the most depth on the Las Vegas Raiders defense.

The Raiders defense took a step forward against the run in 2019. Ranked in the top 10 by most metrics stopping opponent rushing attack, the defensive line was a big reason for that. Stalwart veteran defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins led the cause up the middle proving to be a space eating and block destroying presence as the Raiders early down defensive tackle.

PJ Hall had flashes of improved play but would also disappear at times rushing the passer. That said, his best plays were made behind the line of scrimmage, stopping the run and he and Hankins were a formidable duo clogging rushing lanes for much of the season.

While both Hall and Hankins didn’t offer much as pass rushers, Maurice Hurst on the other hand had his best season yet as the designated rusher of the group. Mostly playing on 3rd downs Hurst improved on his rookie season, doubling his pressure rate in year 2.

Players like Corey Liuget and Terrell McClain also saw time on the inside for the Raiders. However both defenders only played in three games each for the Silver and Black in 2019, making a minimal contribution. Neither will be on the team in 2020.

Overall the returning defensive tackles are solid rotational defensive linemen in the NFL. Each has their strength and weaknesses but they all have a role to play.
