Las Vegas Raiders 2020 pre-draft position overview: Defensive Tackle
By BD Williams
Will the Raiders draft a defensive tackle?
With the addition of Maliek Collins, the Raiders defensive tackle rotation is pretty much set and in this writer’s opinion the strongest position group on the defense. That being said the Raiders could see a player like Derrick Brown or Javon Kinlaw come their way in the draft and pull the trigger if Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden agree that one has All-Pro potential.
During a pre-draft press conference, Mayock spoke to reporters about the upcoming NFL Draft and went on record saying:
"“The biggest mistakes happen when teams reach for need.” – Mike Mayock, Raiders General Manager"
This could signal that the Raiders could strongly consider adding a blue chip talent to a position group that is already strong. The addition of Rod Marinelli is a strong tell however that this class won’t bear a first round defensive tackle. Marinelli is widely considered the best defensive line coach in all of football.
It might be more prudent for the Raiders to let the veteran coach develop the curren group of players on the roster at the position, or add to it later in the draft. That being said, don’t be surprised if the Raiders don’t select any player at all at this position and roll with the guys who are already here.
