The Raiders have back to back picks, and with their second pick of the two they add Jalen Hurts from Oklahoma. The quarterback situation with the Raiders has been the topic of discussion for a couple of years now, and although it may be controversial, the Raiders need to start planning for the future if Derek Carr does not work out.

Although the Raiders already have Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota under contract, I would not put it past the Raiders to bring in a quarterback like Hurts or Jacob Eason to possibly be the future of the position. Coach Gruden’s system is incredibly hard to learn and I cannot imagine him throwing a rookie in to start for him right away, so getting someone like Hurts to develop behind Carr or Mariota for a couple of years just makes perfect sense.

Hurts was simply a winner in college, tallying 38 wins to just 4 losses in his career as a starter in college. Hurts can extend plays and use his legs like Russell Wilson but shows inconsistency as a passer at times. If Hurts can develop behind Carr for a year or two, he could be the QB of the future for the Raiders eventually.
