Las Vegas Raiders 2020 NFL Draft prospect profile: Jeff Gladney

Resume and Accolades

Gladney was a standout three-sport athlete in high school (football, basketball & track), but was only not even a top #100 player in the state of Texas his senior year. TCU was the only power five school to offer him a scholarship, and their faith in Gladney proved to be very wise.

Gladney improved year-by-year, and in 2019 he was a First-team All-Big 12 selection. Given the amount of passing that occurs in a conference like the Big 12, there may not be a more battle-tested cornerback in this draft than Gladney.

When you see watch Gladney, his explosiveness and speed jump of the screen, which is what made his combine results confusing until reports came out that he made a meniscus injury that required surgery. He apparently played his senior season with the injury as well.

To get somewhat of a better sense as to what kind of athlete Galdney really is, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic did rank him on his freaks list to start the 2019 season.

"The 185-pound Gladney isn’t just extremely fast — he ran a 4.34 in the 40 this offseason — but he’s insanely strong for his size. According to the Horned Frogs staff, he squats 620 pounds, benches 400 and cleans 400."

Now you can’t always trust teams with this, but looking at Gladney, he definitely displays good explosiveness and strength. And it will be necessary for Gladney to have these traits because, in terms of measurables, he is a bit undersized (5’10, 191 lbs).
