The Las Vegas Raiders had a need at cornerback heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, and when they picked Damon Arnette at No. 19, Twitter reacted.
Sitting at pick No. 19 overall, there were a number of different things the Las Vegas Raiders could have done. They could have stayed, selecting a player of need at cornerback, or possibly move back in round one trying to get themselves a possible late first round pick as well as a second rounder.
However, the choice was to stay put and grab a cornerback, and they may have gotten a steal in Ohio State star Damon Arnette. The numbers he put up at Ohio State were downright impressive, and he brings the kind of skillset that this team is lacking opposite Trayvon Mullen at cornerback.
He is solid in press man coverage, can come up and tackle, and plays with an Alpha Dog mentality. While the pick was surprising to us all at No. 19, the Raiders certainly needed to address the cornerback spot, and with Jeffrey Okudah and C.J. Henderson off the board, it was really anybodyβs guess as to who the third corner selected would be.
So the Raiders added Arnette, and of course, Twitter reacted. Here are some of the highlights.

Pro Football Focus laid out a pretty outstanding statistic after he was selected.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights showed their love to Ruggs and Arnette Thursday.
Got a text from an NFL coach who had Damon Arnette rated as a top 10 player in this draft. Looks like the Raiders got a steal.

Maybe the drafting of Damon Arnette should not have come as quite a surprise.
Raiders pass defense just got better

Damon Arnette checks a lot of boxes for this Raiders secondary.
The Raiders hold three third round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, so expect there to be more fireworks tomorrow night. Thursday was a night where they addressed needs on both sides of the ball with their two first round picks, and now they have to fill in the other pieces of the puzzle.
