Did the Raiders get it right on Day 1?

As for answering the question, did the Silver and Black get it right on day one? It’s a bit of a double-edged sword. Mayock and Gruden did add a couple of quality players at the team’s two biggest needs, but it definitely feels like they left some meat on the bone.

Personally, I would have gone in a different route with each selection, but I do think Ruggs is a dramatic upgrade to the receiving corps, and Arnette fits the organization’s defensive philosophy. He is physical, can play in press man coverage, and has that Alpha Dog mentality the Raiders are trying to add to their defensive backfield.

Since taking over as general manager, Mayock has wanted to bring in good quality guys from big schools with early picks, and he continued that trend on Thursday night. Being a wideout at Alabama, or a cornerback at Ohio State is big-time football, and to address both needs from those two schools was impressive.

Overall, I’ll give Las Vegas a B in the first round, as they brought in talented players in positions of need, but both of them will be question marks until they get on the field. The Raiders were in the thick of the playoff hunt for the majority of last season but unfortunately, fell short of the goal. Hopefully, Ruggs and Arnette are just what the team needs to get over the hump.
