BD Williams takes a closer look at Raiders selection John Simpson in the 2020 NFL Draft, why it makes sense, and an early grade.
Another day of the 2020 NFL Draft, another Clemson Tiger being selected by the Las Vegas Raiders, which has become the story over the last two drafts. This time it is a big man up front in the form of offensive guard John Simpson.
Simpson leaves a storied career at Clemson, being awarded consensus All-American Honors this past season. The stalwart offensive lineman has played in 50 games for his Alma-mater, including starting games at both guard spots.
Simpson attended the NFL Scouting Combine and put up solid numbers for a guard. Weighing in at 6’4 and 321lbs, Simpson ran his 40 yard dash in 5.24 seconds, and put up an impressive 34 reps on the bench press.
Known throughout draft circles as a man of tremendous strength and power, Simpson should be right at home on the Raiders offensive line. The Raiders have made several moves at guard during this off-season, perhaps this spells the end for Gabe Jackson?
Here is why the pick makes sense, and the draft grade.
