Gabe Jackson

Twice this offseason Gabe Jackson‘s name has been in the news as a potential trade candidate. Once during the early stages of free agency, and again during the draft. General manager Mike Mayock did give the veteran a vote of confidence this weekend by stating that he’s the starting right guard, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

In the last couple of months, Las Vegas resigned interior offensive linemen Denzelle Good and Jordan Devey, and also brought in Eric Kush. Then in the draft, the organization added John Simpson to the mix. That’s either an extravagant investment in depth or a signal of what’s to come.

Jackson has battled injuries in the last couple of years which has shown in his production. He’s missed eight games in the last two seasons and has surrendered 10 sacks. It doesn’t help matters that the big man is the sixth-highest paid player at his position, and the team can walk away from his contract with no dead cap if he’s released before June 1st.

Maybe the Raiders give him one more year to see if he can turn it around, but moving on is certainly one option on the table.
