Las Vegas Raiders: 4 potential cut candidates after the 2020 NFL Draft
By Matt Holder
Zay Jones
Similar to the other three players on this list, it couldn’t have comforted Zay Jones to see the organization spend three draft picks on wide receivers this weekend. Well, technically two and a half with Lynn Bowden. Las Vegas also added Siaosi Mariner as an undrafted free agent, so the organization is running out of seats in the position room.
Jones was a second-round pick by Buffalo in 2017, but it only took a fifth-rounder for the Raiders to pry him away from the Bills. That says a lot about how he’s progressed as a pro, and he wasn’t very productive in the 10 games he suited up for the Silver and Black, catching 20 passes for 147 yards and no touchdowns. With more mouths to feed, those numbers will likely look even worse if the three-year veteran remains on the roster in 2020.
If Gruden and Mayock are indeed looking to get rid of a wideout in the next couple of days, the decision could be between the East Carolina product and Marcell Ateman. The latter’s production has been fairly similar but he costs about half as much as the former. It’s hard to imagine a world where either player is on the roster in September, but my money is on Jones to be the first one gone.
