Derek Carrier

Over the last two months, the writing has been on the wall for Derek Carrier‘s future with the Silver and Black. He was the third tight end on the depth chart last season, and it’s not a good sign that the organization brought in three more players – Jason Witten, Nick O’Leary, and Paul Butler – at the position in free agency. To make matters worse, Las Vegas also signed undrafted free agent Nick Bowers this weekend.

The team has seven tight ends and will likely cut that number down to three in September. Carrier’s best, and maybe only, chance at making the 53-man roster will be if Foster Moreau isn’t healthy to start the season.

The eight-year veteran hasn’t done much for the Raiders as he’s only hauled in 20 catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns the last couple of seasons. His contract isn’t doing him any favors either as the organization wouldn’t owe him any money if he’s released. At this point, the Raiders would be doing Carrier a favor by cutting him now, so that he can potentially join another squad for training camp.
