Las Vegas Raiders: 4 potential cut candidates after the 2020 NFL Draft

Nick Nelson‘s NFL career has been quite the roller coaster ride so far. An injury in the pre-draft process caused him to slide into the fourth round, he excelled in the preseason as a rookie and then was awful in the games that count. Last season, he got placed on the practice squad to start the year but earned his way back on the 53-man roster, only to finish 2019 on injured reserve.
The Wisconsin product’s 2020 roster status was already in jeopardy and this weekend’s draft haul didn’t do him any favors. Gruden and Mayock spent a first-round pick on cornerback Damon Arnette and doubled down at the position on day three of the draft with Amik Robertson. Adding Madre Harper from the undrafted free agent pool might just be the nail in the coffin for the 2018 fourth-round pick.
Nelson used to have a niche as a nickel cornerback and backup to Lamarcus Joyner, however, Robertson expects to fill that role now. The two-year veteran also doesn’t have any guaranteed money left on his contract, making him even more expendable.
