Week 5 – Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs
Capping off this brutal four game stretch is a trip to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Simply put, the Chiefs have owned this matchup for the last seven years, with the Raiders winning just twice over that stretch. The Raiders have not beaten the Chiefs since 2017 and have not won in Kansas City since 2012.
Arrowhead Stadium has been a house of horrors for the Raiders and a narrow defeat there cost them home field advantage and the AFC West title in 2016. Many fans lay the blame solely on Derek Carr and his struggles but even when the Raiders were good in recent years, the Chiefs have just been better.
Adding to the criticism of Carr are his struggles in cold weather and the winters in KC can be just as brutal as those in Buffalo. Since becoming the starter in 2014, Carr has had to make the trip every year to Arrowhead in December or January and play the Chiefs in the bitter cold.
That is not an excuse for his struggles but in 2020 that excuse will not even be an option. For the first time since 2013 the Raiders will be traveling to Kansas City in October but this time they will be facing the defending champs.
According to many bookmakers, the Raiders have the worst odds in the AFC West of winning the division but if they hope to beat those odds, they will need to go in to Kansas City and punch the Chiefs in the mouth. This game will be followed by a bye week for the Raiders and what better way to recuperate than by going in to it with a win over a hated rival.
