Las Vegas Raiders 2020 post-draft depth chart: Quarterback
By Brad Weiss
Post-Draft Depth Chart
No change here, as Derek Carr returns as the starter for the seventh straight season. Outside of the 2016 campaign, that saw him become one of the better young quarterbacks in football, Carr and the Raiders have not had much success in terms of putting notches in the win column.
The 2020 season is an exciting one surrounding the franchise, as they are moving into their brand new stadium, and will be heading to Las Vegas after so many years in the Bay Area. Carr told the media at the end of last season that he would be the first quarterback to take a snap in Vegas for the team, and he was right.
Mariota is as solid a backup as the Raiders could have hoped for, and if by some miracle he does get in the game, he has the opportunity to make big money in performance bonuses. Peterman continues to be Gruden’s pet project, and he returns as the presumed No. 3.
Here is a look at the depth chart after the 2020 NFL Draft.
- Derek Carr
- Marcus Mariota
- Nathan Peterman
Of course, the Raiders could be in the market to bring in another arm for the summer, as there are some cheap veteran options still available. Gruden seems to like Peterman a lot, and Mariota is the presumed backup, so if they stay with these three guys, there is better depth than at any other time in Carr’s career.
The entire 2020 Raiders season is going to hinge on Carr, who has played well statistically the last two seasons, but the team has won only 11 games combined. The weapons the team brought in are going to help him in a big way, and the offensive line is solid, so everything is lined up for him to have a tremendous season.
