4 former Raiders who could dominate with the 2020 roster
CB/FS Charles Woodson
The Raiders brought in veterans at both cornerback and safety and drafted Damon Arnette in the first round of the 2020 draft so they were well aware that both were positions of need after the 2019 season. The defensive backfield was obliterated by injury and the lack of depth there was one of the primary reasons the team struggled against the pass. What better way to patch the holes there than by bringing in one of the best defensive backs in Raiders history?
Charles Woodson is not just one of the best defensive players in the history of the Raiders but one of the best in NFL history. In his glittering 18 year career the former Heisman Trophy winner racked up an incredible 65 interceptions, 13 defensive touchdowns, and 33 forced fumbles. He was named to the Pro Bowl nine times, was an All-Pro eight times, and was named the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.
The Raiders were near the bottom of the league in interceptions with nine and recovered just six fumbles all year. Woodson has always been a ballhawk and could help the Raiders vastly improve their -2 turnover differential from 2019.
The beauty of having Charles Woodson on the 2020 roster is that he can play all of the positions in the defensive backfield. He would be the clear starter at CB opposite Trayvon Mullen but if Arnette proves he can start as a rookie or if one of the starting safeties is injured, Woodson could step in and dominate.
