Must-win out of the gate

Las Vegas’ bye falls in Week 6, and it can be argued that those initial five games of the season can make or break the year. On the road against the new-look Carolina Panthers is arguably a must-win, as it’s followed by a tough home-opener in primetime against Drew Brees and the stacked New Orleans Saints offense.

The Raiders could finally beat Bill Belichick (without Tom Brady) in Week 3, only to meet the Buffalo Bills, fresh off a playoff appearance, and their respectable defense the week after. In Week 5, Las Vegas travels for a rare matchup with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, not set on a cold winter afternoon.

Five games and arguably only two instances where you can make the case that Las Vegas is favored. Going undefeated may be unrealistic, but if the Raiders can pull off an upset, they walk into their bye week in great shape and can take advantage going forward.
