The Raiders were ranked among the worst teams in second half scoring in 2019. If they want to take a step forward in 2020, that has to change.

In the past two seasons, the Raiders have seen their win total rise from 4-12 in 2018, to 7-9 in 2019. The rebuild appeared to be ahead of schedule last year after a 6-4 start which left them in the middle of the playoff hunt.

The ride was short lived, however, as the team went on to finish the season with a 1-5 record, losing some very winnable games after playing so well through the first ten games of the 2019 campaign.

There are plenty facets of the game you could look to place blame for the demise of the Raiders down the stretch, but it’s hard to overlook the team’s second half woes on offense. If the Raiders have plans of making it to the big dance in 2020, they must make it a priority to be more effective on offense in the second half of ball games, and that is the responsibility of Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr.

We look at one way the Raiders can improve, and that is by Jon Gruden expanding his playcalling late in games.
