Las Vegas Raiders: Potential starters that need to play in the preseason

Johnathan Abram

Much like Nick Kwiatkoski and Cory Littleton, Johnathan Abram should be asked to play a fair amount in the 2020 preseason. Abram already had an offseason to learn Paul Guenther’s scheme and the Raiders trusted him enough to make him a starter as a rookie, but he has been on a long injury layoff.

Abram only played in one game for the Raiders in 2019 but looked to be every bit the tone setter they needed in the defensive backfield. He flew around the field breaking up plays and laying the wood on unsuspecting Broncos receivers and even got teammate Gareon Conley with some friendly fire.

Having been sidelined since Week 1, if the Raiders wait until the 2020 opener then Abram will have gone almost a full year between live action. With the expectations the team has on the young safety to be a leader on and off the field, he will need to knock a great deal of the rust off before Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers.
