Las Vegas Raiders: Potential starters that need to play in the preseason

Damarious Randall

The Raiders brought in Damarious Randall from the Cleveland Browns ostensibly to start alongside Johnathan Abram in the defensive backfield. Randall is a veteran safety having spent three years with the Green Bay Packers, two years with the Browns, and has started 56 games over that five year span.

Despite his status as a veteran, this will of course be Randall’s first year under Paul Guenther and as solid as Erik Harris was for the Raiders in 2019, they see Randall as an upgrade and will expect him to start come Week 1. In order to do that Randall will need to prove that he has a full understanding of the playbook, especially given his position as free safety.

Johnathan Abram will be seen as the de facto leader on the defense due to his personality and what we saw from him in 2019, but as the deeper safety Randall may have more responsibilities in coverage. He will need to catch up quickly with the rest of the defense and some extended action in the preseason will do wonders.
