Additions and Subtractions
Just as they did last year, the Cleveland Browns were busy this offseason, trying to bring in the right mix of players to stop their incredible playoff drought. Case Keenum was brought in to backup Mayfield, giving them some stability at QB2, and the team also brought in a monster along the offensive line in Jack Conklin.
Conklin joins an offensive line that also got better in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, as the team used the No. 10 overall pick on Alabama mauler Jedrick Wills. The key is to give Mayfield the most protection they possibly can, while hoping he reverts back to the form that saw him set records as a rookie quarterback.
In addition to the Browns adding talent along the offensive line, they also brought in a solid pass-catching tight end in Austin Hooper, who joins the talented, and young David Njoku at the position group. When you consider the offense already has running back Nick Chubb, and wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, that should be more than enough firepower to go around.
On defense, the Browns bolstered their secondary, drafting LSU’s Grant Delpit in the second round, and signing former Raiders first round pick Karl Joseph. They did lose both T.J. Carrie and Damarious Randall from their defensive backfield in free agency, so it will be interesting to see how all the new faces gel.
