3 worst moves by the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2020 offseason

Drafting Damon Arnette at 19

The Raiders used their second pick of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft on cornerback Damon Arnette from Ohio State. Las Vegas badly needed a cornerback to pair with Trayvon Mullen, but most believe the pick was a bit of a reach.

Arnette was a great corner for the Buckeyes in college, but he was not lined up against the best receivers, and he was a bit inconsistent.

With that being said, my main concern with Arnette is his age. At 23-years old, Arnette has played for Ohio State since 2015, and apparently contemplated quitting football altogether in the past. At this age and with that many miles on him, will Arnette have the ability to make massive improvements, or is he already close to his peak?

Arnette allowed the lowest passer rating in single coverage in college football last year, and he played injured throughout the season, so the reason for the Raiders taking Arnette so early makes sense. However, it would have been a much better pick if they were able to trade back and gain more picks, selecting Arnette later in the draft.

There are a lot of questions surrounding Arnette, especially for a first round pick that was not projected to go until much later. But, Mayock is outstanding at finding talent, and Arnette may end up shocking everyone as a rookie.
