3 worst moves by the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2020 offseason
Losing Karl Joseph
Karl Joseph was finally starting to hit his stride last season, being a good leader, and making big plays in clutch moments. The Raiders did not pick up Joseph’s fifth-year option, but it was believed that if Joseph played well in 2019, he could be brought back by the team.
Even though Joseph played great for the team, he was injured late in the season and missed the last few games of the season, likely being a big reason that he was not brought back.
Joseph would have been the perfect compliment to Johnathan Abram, and although the Raiders brought in a good group of safeties, Joseph was likely better. The Raiders signed Damarious Randall and Jeff Heath to the team to replace Joseph, so we will see if that is truly an upgrade in 2020.
The Raiders signed Randall to a 1yr/$2.1 million deal, as well as signing Heath to a 2yr/$6 million deal. On the other hand, Joseph signed a deal with the Browns for 1yr/$2.5 contract, less than Heath signed for. The Raiders easily could have signed Joseph to the same deal that Heath was signed to, as well as having a much higher upside.
Joseph wanted to be a Raider, was making big improvements, won the team multiple games in 2019, and the team still decided to go a different direction
