6 players the Raiders can’t afford to lose to injury in 2020
Derek Carr, Quarterback
Say what you want about Derek Carr, but the fact of the matter is, since Jon Gruden took over as head coach, he has put up the best numbers of his career. After not throwing for over 4,000 yards in any of his first four NFL season, Carr has done it in back-to-back years, and is fresh off completing better than 70 percent of his passes in 2019.
While the wins have not come with the statistics, Carr is in position to have the best season of his career in 2020, as Gruden and Mike Mayock have made a concerted effort to build up the roster around him. Gruden’s system is a very tough one to master, so losing Carr at this point would put the Raiders at a significant disadvantage, even with a capable backup in Marcus Mariota.
The Raiders have the skill players to dominate on the offensive side of the ball this season, and to a man, they will tell you that Carr is the unquestioned leader of this team. The franchise has stood behind Carr through all the rumors the past three offseason, and now is the time for him to bring this team back to the playoffs.
