Henry Ruggs – 103rd overall
Henry Ruggs comes to Las Vegas with some massive expectations as the 12th overall pick is seen by many as the key that will truly unlock Jon Gruden’s offense. Even if he does not light things up from Day 1, as Hartitz points out “No [other] rookie WR has a clearer path to No. 1 pass-game duties in his offense”.
The Raiders brought in Ruggs to be the number 1 WR from day 1 and if he is able to pick up Gruden’s complicated offense he should be inserted in to the starting lineup immediately. He was incredibly productive from a touchdown perspective at Alabama but was never a high-volume receiver in terms of catches.
This could lead to some boom and bust potential similar to other deep threats like Desean Jackson but if GM Mike Mayock is to be believed, Ruggs should benefit from all kinds of manufactured touches like reverses and bubble screens.
Ruggs’s speed should help unlock defenses and take the pressure off players like Hunter Renfrow and Josh Jacobs who should feast underneath. That type of impact can’t be measured by fantasy statistics but Ruggs will have plenty of chances to light up both the fantasy and real world box scores every week.
