Las Vegas Raiders secondary will have plenty of camp battles
Who starts opposite Johnathan Abram?
Last season, we got a small glimpse of Johnathan Abram, the confident safety out of Mississippi State who was a first round pick in 2019. Abram plays the game like the Raiders of old, not afraid to come up and make the big hit, but his aggressive style of play led to him having a season-ending injury in Week 1.
Still, he is going to continue to play with that kind of intensity, and the real question is who is going to start alongside him at the other safety spot this season. The Raiders brought in Jeff Heath and Damarious Randall via free agency, and holdover Erik Harris had a bit of a breakout season for the Silver and Black last year.
The fact that the Raiders have three guys who will be battling for the position is good news, and Harris did show last year he has starter capability. I believe Randall is going to get the first chance to take the starting job, but Heath and Harris are both solid players, and anyone of them could be the man standing next to Abram in the backfield against Carolina in Week 1.
