Las Vegas Raiders: 5 challenges team could face in 2020

An improved AFC West

The Raiders made notable improvements in the offseason, but so did their division rivals. The Denver Broncos drafted Jerry Jeudy to compliment Courtland Sutton on the opposite side, and Melvin Gordon creates a nice one-two punch with Phillip Lindsay in the backfield.

The Los Angeles Chargers will bring back a healthy defense, highlighted by Derwin James and Joey Bosa. They have also gotten better on the offensive side of the ball, and it will be interesting to see who steps in under center replacing Chargers legend Philip Rivers.

Finally, the fact that the division still houses the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, headlined by Patrick Mahomes, fresh of a 10-year contract extension, is a daunting task in itself. The Chiefs return 20 of 22 starters from last year’s team, so they are the obvious favorite to win it again in 2020.

Case in point, Las Vegas made noticeable improvements that were largely aimed at going after the Chiefs, but don’t be quick to write off Denver or Los Angeles. The division could truly be a competitive race, and division victories will be coveted in the race for the postseason.
