Las Vegas Raiders draft Patrick Surtain II No. 9 overall

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report recently released a brand new 2021 NFL mock draft, and in it, he has the Raiders picking in the top-10. With the No. 9 overall selection, the Silver and Black added Patrick Surtain II from Alabama, a standout cornerback for the Crimson Tide.

After drafting Arnette in the first round in 2020, and Trayvon Mullen in the second round in 2019, Sobleski feels the team could have an incredible, young trio at cornerback for the foreseeable future.

"The trio of Arnette, Surtain and Trayvon Mullen would give Las Vegas one of the league’s best young cornerback rooms."

Surtain comes from NFL stock, as his father, Patrick Sr. was an 11-year veteran, and went to a couple of Pro Bowls. The younger Surtain has everything you look for in today’s cornerback, as he is incredibly athletic, long, and has ballhawking ability.

In two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Surtain has three interceptions and 15 pass breakups thanks to his 6-foot-2 frame. Last season, he also finished second in the SEC in forced fumbles, as he was able to knock the ball loose three times.

He will be one of the first cornerbacks off the board next April, and this would be an excellent addition to the Raiders secondary for years to come.

Adding Surtain makes sense on many levels, including the fact that general manager Mike Mayock loves selecting players from big-time programs. With his history, bloodline, and overall skill set, Surtain is going to be a monster at the NFL level, and the Raiders would be happy to have him doing it in the Silver and Black.
