Las Vegas Raiders quarterbacks will be paid the fourth-most in NFL

In June of 2017, Carr signed a five-year extension with the then-Oakland Raiders, becoming the richest man in the NFL. The $125 million deal made perfect sense at the time, as he was coming off a career year, and looked to be a guy that would lead this team to the playoffs on a yearly basis.

While Carr has not come with the wins since then, he has put up solid statistics since Gruden’s arrival, and the added weapons should help him get the Raiders to the postseason in 2020. His backup, Mariota, is the kind of QB2 that this team has been lacking, and he was brought in on a very team-friendly deal.

However, these two are going to get paid in 2020, and rank in the top-5 in the NFL when it comes to the projected QB1 and QB2 for each team. According to Spotrac, the combination of Carr and Mariota will make over $30 million dollars in 2020, the fourth-most in the entire NFL.

Once the richest contract in the league, Carr’s $21.5 million salary this season is now No. 10 in the NFL. Indianapolis will pay Jacoby Brissett only $125,000 less to be Philip Rivers’ backup in 2020, and that combination will make nearly $50 million dollars against the cap this season.

This list is certainly eye-popping, as A.J. McCarron will make more than Lamar Jackson this season, and after paying Tom Brady a ton of money for the last 20 years, the New England Patriots will pay Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham less than $2 million combined. Quarterbacks get paid the big bucks, and for the Raiders, the hope is that the investment in Carr and Mariota will lead to this team being perennial contenders.
