Las Vegas Raiders Rookie Roles: All-Purpose Lynn Bowden Jr.

What his role will be as a rookie

After being selected by the Raiders, Lynn Bowden Jr. drew comparisons to Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints, whom Las Vegas will meet in Week 2 of the coming season. Why the comparison? Because both players have a versatile skill set that makes them an all-purpose player, allowing them the ability to master the playbook from different positions.

Historically, we’ve seen success with Taysom Hill playing that role with the Saints, and it’s likely the same type of success that Jon Gruden wants to see in Las Vegas. More accurately, Mike Mayock has hinted that Bowden will play the “joker” role for the Raiders, hinting that he’ll see snaps at a variety of positions like running back, receiver, and potentially even quarterback in a few formations.

Ultimately, Bowden Jr.’s versatility gives Las Vegas a few new looks to throw at opposing defenses, keeping them honest for all four quarters. Don’t be surprised to see the third-round pick line up across the field at multiple positions, because if it leads to victories at the end of the day, the Raiders may have picked up an invaluable gem in the third round.
