2020 Las Vegas Raiders 53-man roster projection entering training camp

Safety (5): Johnathan Abram, Damarious Randall, Jeff Heath, Erik Harris, Dallin Leavitt

The Raiders made some major upgrades to the safety position with the additions of Damarious Randall and Jeff Heath in free agency as they addressed the lack of depth at the position. Johnathan Abram was expected to be a key figure on the defense in 2019, but injury cut his season short, so his return is almost as if the Raiders had an additional first round pick.

Erik Harris was a solid player for a bad defense in 2019, but if he is starting regularly, then the rest of your unit may be in trouble. He has shown a great eye for the ball and can often be in the right place at the right time, but just as often can make boneheaded plays or get flat out burned by talented receivers.

Harris being the third or fourth safety on the team is a great example of the unit’s progress on paper.

Jon Gruden is a big fan of Dallin Leavitt, though we should hope that his primary contributions are just on special teams. Javin White out of UNLV is a feel-good story, but is a longshot to make the final roster due to his tweener status. If he makes some splash plays in preseason, and in camp, then he may be able to jump past Leavitt and take that final safety spot.
